Don't panic: we don’t give lectures, we also don’t even pretend to understand the artist and you can definitely disagree. Please, disagree.

REINVENTING YOURSELF WITH MATISSE
What if the old version of you no longer fits?
Matisse knew something about starting over. So we're borrowing his eyes for an evening to talk about reinvention, identity and having the nerve to make your own rules.

Atelier Dinner for entrepreneurs: Dare to Choose with Elise Demuynck
What do you need to stop considering to finally move forward?
Artist Elise Demuynck chose one colour — blue — and built an entire artistic practice around it. Over dinner in her studio, we’ll use her work as a starting point to talk about one of the hardest parts of building a business: choosing what deserves your attention and letting the rest go. What do you commit to, what do you stop doing, and how much is keeping your options open actually keeping you stuck?

The Feelings We’d Rather Not Have
Yayoi Kusama / Stedelijk Museum
What if the feelings we try to get rid of are the ones we need to make room for?
Kusama turned fear, hallucinations and obsessive thoughts into the material for her art. Rather than hiding the parts of her inner world that were difficult or uncomfortable, she gave them somewhere to exist. We’ll use her work to talk about the feelings we tend to label as unwanted, irrational or too much — and what might happen if, instead of constantly trying to fix them, we found ways to live with and even create from them.

Hometown
Hailun Ma / Foam
When you leave home, what comes with you?
Hailun Ma photographs Xinjiang from the perspective of someone who both belongs there and has built a life elsewhere. For those of us living in Amsterdam but coming from somewhere else, her work opens up a conversation about what happens when home is no longer just one place. What do you take with you, what do you leave behind, and where do you belong when different places have shaped different parts of who you are?

Can You Buy Good Taste?
Lapdogs of the Bourgeoisie / de Appel
Is good taste something you have — or something you learn?
We like to think we simply know what we like. But Lapdogs of the Bourgeoisie looks at how class and cultural power shape the art world — which raises a slightly uncomfortable question about our own taste. From the art we buy and clothes we wear to our interiors, restaurants and holiday destinations: how much of what we call “good taste” is really ours, how much comes from the people and trends around us, and can we deliberately learn to see better?

Emerging Parenthood
Who are you becoming when parenthood changes more than you expected?
Becoming a parent doesn’t just add a child to your life. It can quietly rearrange your identity, relationships, ambitions, body and the way you imagined your future. Through film and other parents’ experiences, we’ll talk about that strange in-between: who you were before, who you’re becoming now, what you miss, what you’ve gained and the parts of yourself you’re still trying to find a place for.

Do We Live Too Much in Our Heads?
Everything brings us back to the body
/ de Brakke Grond
When did our bodies become something to optimise instead of inhabit?
We track our sleep, count our steps, optimise our workouts, watch our cycles and try to understand our bodies through increasingly precise data. Everything brings us back to the body starts somewhere much more physical: a performer and an eighteen-kilo copper plate. We’ll use it to talk about our increasingly complicated relationship with our bodies — and whether knowing more about them has actually made us any better at listening to them.
