Salon Sans Sel started with a hunger for more life in life.
I want to be moved, surprised, challenged. I want conversations that go somewhere, people whose minds I can’t predict and ideas that make me reconsider my own.
For a while, I was missing that. Life felt a little dried out.
During one of the most challenging periods of my life, I started surrounding myself with art. It healed me in ways I never thought possible. It reminded me how much there still is to see, feel, question and understand.
We spend a lot of time trying to figure out how to live.
Who to love. What to want. Whether to stay, leave, have children, change careers, slow down, want more or finally decide that what we have is enough.
And there’s no shortage of people willing to tell us what the answer should be.
Art does something different.
It doesn’t need you to agree. It doesn’t even need you to understand. It gives you another way of looking at something you thought you already knew.
That’s what Salon Sans Sel is for.
We gather around the questions we’re already wrestling with and use art, culture and each other to look at them differently. To be surprised by someone else’s mind. To have our own perspective challenged. To leave with a buzzing head full of questions, a heart on fire and remembering just how rich this one life can be.
No need to make yourself less intense, curious or complicated here.
Because an intense life needs to be fed.
Come hungry.
