Conversations about life, through art.

Conversations about life, through art.

Conversations about life, through art.

Let’s free art out of white-walled galleries and silent museum halls. Let it soak into our brains, get under our skin and end up where it belongs: in our lives, around our tables, in the middle of our conversations.

SALONS COMING UP

Every Salon starts with a topic that's on our mind - from parenthood and reinvention to desire, taste and career paths. We borrow an artist’s perspective, add our own and let others change our minds in conversation.

FYI, you don’t need to know anything about art. Curiosity will do.

REINVENTING YOURSELF
MATISSE / H'ART MUSEUM

exhibition / identity / discussion / drinks

exhibition / identity / drinks

What if the old version of you no longer fits?

When illness made it impossible for Matisse to work as he had before, he didn’t try to recreate his old life. He picked up a pair of scissors and made something entirely new. We’ll use his late work to talk about reinvention, identity and what starting over can look like.

Atelier Dinner for entrepreneurs: Dare to Choose

atelier visit / entrepreneurship / dinner

exhibition / identity / drinks

What do you need to stop considering to finally move forward?

Artist Elise Demuynck chose one colour - blue - and built an entire artistic practice around it. Over dinner in her studio, we’ll use her work as a starting point to talk about one of the hardest parts of building a business: choosing what deserves your attention and letting the rest go. What do you commit to, what do you stop doing, and how much is keeping your options open actually keeping you stuck?

WHO GETS TO DECIDE WHAT MOTHERHOOD LOOKS LIKE? femmy otten / BEELDEN AAN ZEE

exhibition / sculptures / drinks / byb*

exhibition / identity / drinks

Motherhood is often presented as if becoming a mother gives you one new identity. The reality can feel much more fragmented: lover, mother, professional, friend, sexual being, ambitious woman, caretaker, creator. All still there, but somehow changed. Through Femmy Otten’s Birthland, we’ll talk about the first years of becoming a mother: our changing relationships with our bodies and ourselves, the space motherhood takes up in our lives, and how we want to inhabit that role without letting it swallow all the others.

byb* = you can bring your baby/toddler if you want to :)

The Feelings We’d Rather Not Have
Yayoi Kusama / Stedelijk Museum

exhibition / art / mental wellbeing / drinks

exhibition / identity / drinks

What if the feelings we try to get rid of are the ones we need to make room for?

Kusama turned fear, hallucinations and obsessive thoughts into the material for her art. Rather than hiding the parts of her inner world that were difficult or uncomfortable, she gave them somewhere to exist. We’ll use her work to talk about the feelings we tend to label as unwanted, irrational or too much and what might happen if, instead of constantly trying to fix them, we found ways to live with and even create from them.

Hailun Ma / Foam

photography / exhibition / expat conversation / drinks

exhibition / identity / drinks

When you leave home, what comes with you?

Hailun Ma photographs Xinjiang from the perspective of someone who both belongs there and has built a life elsewhere. For those of us living in Amsterdam but coming from somewhere else, her work opens up a conversation about what happens when home is no longer just one place. What do you take with you, what do you leave behind, and where do you belong when different places have shaped different parts of who you are?
